In Croatia, 400,000 tons of food are thrown away annually, and by 2030 we must halve that amount, said Ana Knežević, president of the Croatian Association for Consumer Protection.

The Croatian Association for Consumer Protection held today, June 6, 2022, the final conference of the "My World Feeds the Future" project.
The project was carried out at the Viktorovac Primary School in Sisak, and the project partners were the Administrative Department of the City of Sisak for Education, Culture, Sports, Veterans and Civil Society, our company RED FORK, the association "Đeram" from Petrinja and "Probion" - the student association of the Faculty of Food and Biotechnology in Zagreb.

The project was financed by the Ministry of Science and Education, and the value of the project was HRK 120,000.00.

The project was implemented at the school from February to June through 12 interactive workshops with students from 5th to 8th grade. Each workshop had an educational part on a given topic through a presentation, and after that the students, with the help of students from the "Probion" association, did exercises, through which they had to apply the knowledge gained through the presentation. After each workshop, the students filled out questionnaires anonymously, and by analyzing the answers, we made a ranking list of the three best in knowledge and awarded them trophies as recognition.

Fifth grade students learned about putting together a healthy plate, the importance of drinking water and the harmful effects of carbonated and energy drinks, and the importance of movement.

Sixth graders learned about food waste, how we sort waste and protect the environment, and how we can reuse food.
Seventh graders learned about calories, food additives and reading food labels.

Eighth graders learned about marketing trends and body health, about food advertising and sustainable development, and about online shopping and using its benefits.

The students pointed out in the polls that they know something about these topics, that they find them interesting, and that the vast majority would like to learn more about these topics.

After workshops held with the Administrative Department of the City of Sisak for Education, Culture, Sports, Veterans and Civil Society and project partners, a round table was held where the contents and results of the project were presented and the possibilities of continuing the project through civic education were discussed. .

Through the project, Viktorovac Elementary School received exercise equipment and 2 professional stick mixers for preparing healthy meals.

We hope that the students will use the acquired knowledge to realize their future without waste and greenhouse gases, with plenty of water and healthy food.
